University Honors Ambassadors Information:

Description:

The University Honors Ambassador Program is a competitive leadership opportunity for any Honors student who wishes to develop leadership, event management and interpersonal skills. University Honors Ambassadors work with the Honors staff to enhance student development through peer mentorship, workshops, and extracurricular activities for Honors students.

Ambassadors will hold "hangouts" in the Fall quarter, which are required for 1st-year and new 3rd-year transfer Honors students. Choose your hangout and register for one here: Ambassador Hangout.  But if any Honors student has a question or would like to connect with an Ambassador, feel free to reach out to any Ambassador. Please view the Ambassador bios below for contact information.

Focus Areas

University Honors Ambassadors will consist of four teams that are each working on a particular focus area associated with the University Honors Three Pillars of Excellence- creativity and innovation, diversity and global citizenship, and culture of contribution. Each Ambassador will be assigned to a particular focus area and is expected to develop and execute events or activities that encompass his/her focus area. In addition to the focus areas, Ambassadors will also provide support & mentorship to all Honors students.

  • Creativity & Innovation- The team within this focus area will coordinate events and activities that complement the University Honors students' personal enrichment & academic engagement.
  • Culture of Contribution- The team within this focus group will coordinate events and activities which will provide community service opportunities for University Honors students.
  • Diversity and Global Citizenship- The team within this focus group will coordinate events and activities which provide social and cultural experiences for University Honors students.
  • Outreach and Alumni Relations- The team within this focus group will work on and off campus to support outreach and alumni relations efforts for University Honors.

service

The Ambassadors involved in our pillar of "Culture of Contribution" are charged with connecting UCR Honors students with a variety of opportunities emphasizing the relationship between community service and education. The objectives of the "Culture of Contribution" Ambassadors aim to organize events that expand students' knowledge of how they can benefit the community and broaden students' understanding of community service and the impact their service has on the surrounding community.  If you have an event that you think would fall under this category or have questions, please contact Dennis McIver at dennis.mciver@ucr.edu.

co-curricular

The Ambassadors involved in our pillar of "Creativity & Innovation" are charged with promoting student involvement and enrichment through co-curricular activities that are designed to get students to think critically, get exposure to interdisciplinary events, and actively engage with learning outside of the classroom setting. If you have an event that you think would fall under this category, or have questions about "Creativity & Innovation" events with UCR Honors, please contact Latoya Ambrose at latoya.ambrose@ucr.edu

social

The Ambassadors involved in our pillar of "Diversity & Global Citizenship" are charged with organizing a wide range of activities that bring the Honors students and the surrounding community together. The events are designed to allow students to meet new people, develop relationships, and provide opportunities for participants to try new activities and learn about different cultures. We encourage all members to attend sponsored events to broaden their horizons and get out of their comfort zones.  If you have an event that you think would fall under this category, or have questions about "Global Diversity & Global Citizenship" events with UCR Honors, please contact Latoya Ambrose at latoya.ambrose@ucr.edu

outreach

The Ambassadors involved in "Outreach & Alumni Relations" seek to promote UCR Honors to potential students and develop relationships with our alumni. Ambassadors are committed to branching out into the community to promote the idea of higher education among students of all ages. The Ambassadors aim to inform and engage students in the benefits of both UC Riverside and UCR Honors as a stepping stone to achieving their dreams.  If you have an event that you think would fall under this category or have questions about outreach and recruitment, please contact Lourdes Maldonado at lourdes.maldonado@ucr.edu.
