Current UCR or Transfer Student FAQ

Q: What are the eligibility requirements to apply to University Honors as a current UCR student or third-year transfer student?
  • Current first-year or second-year UCR students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 at the end of winter quarter of their first year or second year will be invited to apply for admission to begin the program at the beginning of the fall quarter of the next academic year.  Current third-year UCR students are not eligible to apply.
  • IIncoming transfer students with a 3.50 cumulative GPA from their transfer institution will be invited to apply. Students will be invited based on the GPA used by Undergraduate Admissions in determining admission to UC Riverside.
Q: How do I access the University Honors Application?
  • Only eligible students will receive an email invitation with a direct link to the application. Please check the email address used in the UC application for the invitation.
Q: My cumulative GPA was a 3.500, but I did not receive an invitation to apply. What can I do?
  • As the invitation process is automated, it is possible, though not likely, that a technical error did not catch your record.  Additionally, the cumulative GPA is determined at the time of the invitation, so if your GPA was not at the 3.500 at the time (early to mid-April), but changes after that time, that is likely the reason you did not receive an invitation.  If you have any questions, please contact the Honors office at 951-827-5323 or
Q: How is admission to Honors determined?
  • Admission consideration will be dependent on GPA, application essays, demonstrated leadership, and academic integrity. The application, aside from the informational components requested, will include 2 essay prompts that applicants must complete.  The Faculty Admissions Committee will use these essays to judge critical thinking and writing skills.
Q: When is the deadline to apply?
  • Please review the application deadline specified in the e-mail inviting you to apply. Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
Q: If I am admitted into Honors, am I automatically part of Honors?
  • Admission to University Honors will be conditional, pending final spring quarter grades. All students are required to have a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA before starting the program.
