Honors, the place to make a difference

Admission to University Honors

Admission to University Honors is by invitation only to students who meet the program's admissions eligibility criteria. Eligible students will receive an e-mail invitation that will provide a direct link to the University Honors application.  For incoming first-year and transfer students, the invitation will be sent to the e-mail address listed on the UC admissions application. For current first-year and second-year UCR students, the invitation will be sent to their UCR e-mail address.

Please see this chart for more information regarding criteria for each entry portal (incoming first-year, second-year, third-year, and transfer). The majority of University Honors students are admitted to the first-year portal, as incoming freshmen.  At the end of winter quarter each year, University Honors invites eligible first-year and second-year UCR students to apply to join University Honors beginning their second or third year. Eligible, incoming transfer students are invited to apply after receiving their admission notification from UCR. Applicable admissions deadlines are listed below.

The University Honors Faculty Admissions Committee strives to admit a dynamic and well-rounded group of scholars each year, who will contribute to every aspect of the University Honors community. Students admitted into the available entry portals must demonstrate strong academics; exemplary writing skills; interest in research, scholarly pursuits, or creative work; leadership qualities; and community involvement.  Admitted students will be expected to engage with the University Honors community by completing curricular requirements, attending counseling appointments, and actively participating in the University Honors community.

Admission to University Honors is selective; not all applicants will be admitted. Students are encouraged to submit their applications early. Due to the high volume of applications, late applications will not be considered.
