University Honors is a tight-knit community of scholars, within a large, research-university setting, where students will connect with other students, faculty, and staff. The four-year program encourages well-prepared and motivated students to excel and to take an active role in maximizing their education by engaging with, and taking full advantage of, the array of resources and opportunities University Honors has to offer.

Academic & Program Requirements

Year 1 Requirements:
  • Courses
    • FALL: ONLY ONE Ignition Seminar (HNPG016, HNPG017, or HNPG018) | 4 units | LG
    • WINTER: (RLST012H or ETST012H) | 4 units | LG
    • SPRING: Honors World History (HIST010H, HIST015H, or HIST020H) | 4 units | LG
  • Attend an Ambassador Hangout in fall quarter between weeks 2-8. Appointments must be made at least 48 hours in advance or you will be removed from the hangout. To schedule an Ambassador Hangout, click here.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.25, or above, at the end of spring quarter.

*First year students should have passed WRIT020 or WRIT020S prior to fall of their second year.*

Year 2 (New & Continuing Requirements):
  • Courses
    • FALL: HNPG002W | 4 units | LG; WRIT040X | 0.5 units | S/NC, if you are graduating in 3 years or will be on leave at any time of your 3rd year, then speak to your counselor immediately to see if enrollment in HNPG149 is appropriate.
    • WINTER: none, unless you are graduating in 3 years or will be on leave at any time of your 3rd year, then speak to your counselor immediately to see if enrollment in HNPG150 is appropriate.
    • SPRING: none, unless you are graduating in 3 years or will be on leave at any time of your 3rd year, then speak to your counselor immediately to see if enrollment in HNPG198H is appropriate.
  • New and Continuing 2nd years are required to attend group counseling with their assigned Honors Counselor in winter quarter between weeks 2-4. Students should sign up for a group counseling session by Friday of Week 1 of winter quarter. You will receive the form to sign up for your mandatory group counseling session from your designated Honors counselor via email.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.25, or above, at the end of spring quarter.
Year 3 (Continuing) Requirements:
  • Courses
    • FALL: HNPG149 | 1 unit | S/NC ; secure a faculty mentor
    • WINTER: HNPG150 | 3 units | LG
    • SPRING: HNPG198H | 1 unit | LG; work on capstone
  • Attend group counseling with your assigned Honors Counselor in fall quarter between weeks 4-5. Students should sign up for a group counseling session by Friday of Week 3 of fall quarter. You will receive the form to sign up for your mandatory group counseling session from your designated Honors counselor via email.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.25, or above, at the end of spring quarter.
Year 3 (New & Transfer Students) Requirements:
  • Courses
    • FALL: HNPG149 | 1 unit | S/NC; secure a faculty mentor
    • WINTER: HNPG150 | 3 units | LG
    • SPRING: HNPG198H | 1 unit | LG; work on capstone
  • Both new & transfer 3rd year students are required to attend group counseling with their assigned Honors Counselor in fall quarter between weeks 4-5. Students should sign up for a group counseling session by Friday of Week 3 of fall quarter. You will receive the form to sign up for your mandatory group counseling session from your assigned Honors counselor via email.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.25, or above, at the end of spring quarter.
Year 4 Requirements:
  • Courses
    • FALL: HNPG199H | 1 unit | LG; work on capstone
    • WINTER: HNPG199H | 1 unit | LG; majority of capstone should be completed
    • SPRING: HNPG199H | 1 unit | LG; (week 6): Capstone submission & presentation
  • Attend group counseling with your assigned Honors Counselor in fall quarter between weeks 2-3. Students should sign up for a group counseling session by Friday of Week 1 of fall quarter. You will receive the form to sign up for your mandatory group counseling session from your designated Honors counselor via email.
