University Honors Requirements

University Honors students are required to complete a specific set of requirements in order to complete the program and earn University Honors distinction. These requirements vary based on point of entry into the program. To view the specific requirements for each year, please select the appropriate tab below. University Honors students are required to meet with their assigned Honors Counselor, as directed. It is advisable to schedule the appointment early in the quarter, as counseling availability may be limited. The Student Advising Appointment System (SAAS) should be used to check Honors Counselor availability and to schedule an appointment. To petition a University Honors requirement, please refer to the petition table and key appearing below and contact the applicable Honors Counselor to gain access to the petition form. All petition deadlines will be enforced. Petitions that do not meet specified deadlines will be denied.

Recurring Requirements

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.25, or above, at the end of every spring quarter.
  • Earn three Engagement Points by the end of each academic year. Students must earn one point during the fall quarter, one point during the winter quarter, and one point during the spring quarter. Even if you earn more than one point during the quarter, you will still be required to earn at least one point the subsequent quarter(s). If you have questions about this requirement, please contact your designated Honors Counselor.
  • Submit a mandatory, online survey in winter quarter. (The form will be e-mailed to your UCR email account.) Students who do not complete this survey will have a hold placed on their spring quarter registration.
  • Complete all other surveys administered by Honors.
  • Complete eight units of Honors electives before you graduate, preferably by the end of your second year.*
The Honors elective requirement is only applicable only for those students who joined Honors as first-year or second-year students. Students who joined Honors as third-year or transfer students are welcome to take Honors electives, but are not required to do so.

Students in University Honors who are not in good standing will be discontinued from the program. To remain in good standing, students must ensure that they complete all requirements for their cohort by the designated deadlines.
